What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state. It’s a state of intense absorption or concentration while the external world is ignored. Everyone has experienced hypnosis from time to time. Once you have driven the same route over and over after a while you don’t remember driving to your destination. It is when you zone out, day dream, or while watching TV, or on your phone or engrossed in an interesting movie. Have you ever been moved or cried while watching a movie? Even knowing the characters in the movie are acting, you still felt touched in some way. That means you were super focused in the present moment with no regard to the external world, that is hypnosis.
How well does hypnosis work? Let’s take a look at the results.
In 1986 60 women that were 20% overweight took part in a study. 30 women had hypnosis for weight loss, the other 30 women were told to watch what they ate. The hypnosis group lost an average of 17 pounds after 6 months. The other 30 lost, on average a half pound.
Hypnosis goes directly to your subconscious mind to implement suggestions for a positive change, whatever the change is that you want to make. You go into a very relaxed state with your focus on body sensations, such as breathing, pleasant illusions, and imaginative scenes while I bring suggestions directly to the subconscious mind which always hears, always pays attention and is anxiously awaiting instructions on how to best help you.
Hypnosis does not control your mind. You are always in complete control. You will not do anything that goes against your values or morals. You also will not bark like a dog every time you hear a bell ring, because that is entertainment hypnosis, which this is not. You receive positive and supportive suggestions only.
During your hypnosis session you will remain aware, and very relaxed. You will be able to hear me, sometimes my voice may go in and out, depending on how deep you go, but everyone remembers most of their session. A thought may come in and gently disappear, however if you find yourself over thinking during the relaxing phase you simply bring your focus back to your breathing, noticing the air going in and then out. You will not think and be highly focused at the same time. People who have a difficult time visualizing, no worries, your subconscious is still paying attention, you simply put your full attention on my voice rather than the scene I am describing.

My experience with facilitating support groups runs deep. An article I wrote was published in 2005 in Active Living magazine about starting and running such groups. I was the facilitator at Gaylord Rehabilitation Hospital in Wallingford, Connecticut for a six week pain management program, winning me a trip to Las Vegas, NV. I am currently running a group with well over 350 members called, ‘Living Free.’
I owned and ran a daycare from 1988 to 1997.
In 1999 I became trained and certified by the Amputee Coalition of American as a Peer Supporter. Helping and supporting new amputees to get mentally fit while navigating new terrain. I have helped patients at Gaylord and at Yale New Haven hospital. In 1998 I helped start the monthly amputee support group located at Gaylord.
I am also a motivational speaker on a variety of topics.
I live in Plainville, Connecticut with my husband and have two adult children and two grandchildren.
On my time off you can find me on an adventure creating happy memories with family and friends.
